We will have this freedom…
George Jackson: Dragon Philosopher and Revolutionary Abolitionist
Jackson was said to have the embodiment of what the Third World liberationists sought: how from the space of captivity to forge a liberation movement; hence, George Jackson embraced his role as dragon philosopher before he became a Black Panther. The former would prove more controversial than the latter.
"The power of George Jackson's personal story remains painfully relevant to our nation today, with its persistent racism, its hellish prisons, its unjust judicial system, and the poles of wealth and poverty that are at the root of all that. I hope the younger generation, black and white, will read Soledad Brother." —Howard Zinn, author, A People's History of the United States [Also read Blood In My Eye by George L. Jackson and completed only days before he was killed on August 21, 1971 at the hands of San Quentin prison guards during an alleged escape attempt.]
JLS was founded in 2015 amongst a group of Jailhouse Lawyers who were already in unity as a cadre based upon the studies of George L. Jackson. This original group of comrades makes up the current central committee.
Today, Jailhouse Lawyers Speak (JLS) is a national collective of imprisoned persons who fight for human rights, by providing other prisoners with access to legal education, resources, and assistance.
